Once upon a time, there was a village on a mountain. All the villagers worked in the fields. One day, two women went to the field to work. One of the women said to her friend, "Let's sleep here in the field tonight." Her friend said, "Okay, let's sleep here. The animals come to eat the rice grains, and the birds come in the morning. I will sleep here to guard my field." The first woman said, "If you are going to sleep here, let's sleep at my field." The second woman said, "Okay." Gradually, the sun was setting, and it was getting dark. Then the first woman called her friend, "My friend, come here. It's getting dark." But her friend didn't respond. She shouted loudly, "My friend, come here. I have already made tea for us." At that time, she heard a voice from the edge of the field saying, 'Ouuuh.' She thought it was her friend's voice, so she called out, "Come here." Then the nat spirits came to her. Three or four nat spirits came to her field. She was so scared. She said to them, "Let's make some tea. I will go pick some green tea leaves. You start a fire and boil some water." She lit the burning torch and said to them, "Let me go pick some green tea leaves." And she went to the field. She tied the torch to the tree and ran back to her house. On her way home, she had to cross a stream, where she saw a crab. She didn't harm the crab. She was just so scared that she quickly ran back to her house. When she arrived home, she lay down among her family members who were sleeping. Meanwhile, the nat spirits followed her but found only the torch, and realized she had run away. Therefore, they also walked to the village to find her. On their way, they saw a crab in the stream. They asked it, "Did a woman just pass by here?" It answered, "Yes, she just passed by. She was running really fast." They went to the woman's house and carried her away while her family slept, careful not to wake anyone. They ate her. They left her hair and bones near the ladder and the place where the rice grains were pounded. This is the end of the story. The meaning is that we, the highland farmers, must kill any crabs we see on our way. Another meaning is that we should not lie to our friends. If you say you will sleep in the field, you have to do it. If you can't stay there overnight, you should say so. Thank you very much.
