Recounting of story.
Marri Ngarr session at Wudipuli recording mainly Elizabeth Thardim and Veronica Murielle. Both in their 80s, L1 Marri Ngarr speakers and still fluent. Appear to use it between themselves and with a few other elderly people, not sure how much they use it to younger people. They are among a handful of fluent speakers still alive.
Bernadine Kungul and Carmelita Perdjert also present, may be heard occasionally.
Linguist John Mansfield.
Speaker fees for this recording session were covered by Batchelor Institute / Wadeye Aboriginal Language Centre, as part of their overall goal to document endangered langs of the area.
Session starts with some short narratives. After this there is a period of quite unsuccessful elicitation. |
